Flood Recovery Efforts

Storm Response Updates and Information
Between 9/10/19 and 9/12/19, Lake County received a total of 11.81” of rain, causing all area creeks and lakes to overload. The flooding has caused damage to public infrastructure, caused many roads to become flooded, washed out, and/or impassable, and caused significant damage to both personal property and real property.

This severe storm has impacted all of Lake County, including the incorporated communities of Madison, Nunda, Prairie Village, Ramona, Wentworth, and Brant Lake and the unincorporated communities of Chester, Franklin, Junius, Rutland, and Winfred. This resource guide is intended to provide information to all of these communities.

The emergency operations center has been operational since the early morning hours of 9/12/19. This document linked below will be continue to be updated as additional information becomes available. Remember, we do not know what you do not know. PUBLIC SNOW REMOVAL NOTICE
Friday, February 20, 2026

NOTICE: An individual who plows snow from a driveway onto a public road, or plows snow from a driveway across a public road piling it in the ditch, may be in violation of a SD law that prohibits dumping on or within highway right-of-ways. Intentional dumping on a highway right-of-way is a Class 1 misdemeanor. This may also be a violation of a SD law that prohibits the destruction of a highway grade or ditch, which is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
